Shigako Miura

In May, I'll join the exhibition "Lace Remember" with 2 female artists, both have talent and spirit.

Satomi Tamura is a Japanese paper artisan. She is making traditional Japanese paper, and also very experimental, contemporary paper pieces.
Satomi Matsumoto is a copperplate printmaker. She loves to draw people, chic and sophisticated, living among joy and sorrow.

And myself. Will do something new. Please come and check!

Exhibition "JAPANESE FOOL" finished. The theme of this show was "Japan". Organizer Yosuke Awata thought "In the old days, Japanese people had much more free heart and creativity". And "Those spirit are still remaining". 17 artists expressed their image on Japan.

I made embroidery series of Japanese archipelago. The archipelago is, for me, a concrete & objective shape of Japan... which everyone can share. But I made them without referring maps. So, they were from my memories and imagination. Not correct, different from the fact. Those shapes aren't very original. A little personal, also very public.

My first solo show. Pictures of skull-faced women in dress, still eating so many sweets. Their souls were dead, but behavior continues. Ghosts are like that. I also felt as if I were inside my grave... at the underground gallery space!

Lithograph were printed on ghostly thin paper, different pictures are on both sides. The others were mono type prints, colorful drawings, and a large size stitched picture.

Joined a group exhibition which held in NYC and Tokyo. This exhibition was titled "CORE", organized by gallery G2 of Tokyo. Photos below are taken at Tokyo exhibition. This artwork is titled "Rainbow and thunder", a woodcut print in black ink, stitched with bright red thread.
